The federal grant for housing falls under the jurisdiction of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is awarded to individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
To apply for a federal grant for housing, you need to go to their website at hud.gov and click on the link which is appropriate to you. For individuals, go to HUD programs and then click on Single Family Housing Program to get information on mortgage insurance, property improvement insurance and other programs.
If this is for a business, click on business and then go to funding. Should this be for a community, go to multifamily housing, healthcare facilities or the Office of Public and Indian Housing to find out what are the requirements.
There are two types of federal grants offered by the government and most of what was mentioned so far is the project grant. If what you need is not under this program, try looking under the Office of Community Planning and Development to get the second type which is formula grant that is mandated by law.
